We left Eugene Oregon this morning. Kristin Carter made us an amazing all organic breakfast! We said good bye and we were off to biking! We left early because we knew we had a long day ahead of us.
Today was our first true mountain climb!! We went up through Santiam Pass. The first 75 or so miles were flat and rolling hills but after that we climbed all the way to the top of the pass which was 4817 Ft above sea level! It was not bad at all. It was not a steep climb and everyone was feeling really good since we had a rest day yesterday. Adam's sugar levels were in check all day. The only problem was that his left knee was hurting him a bit. Ever since his ACL surgery he has had problems with that knee. The good news is that after he took a few motrin the pain went away for the remainder of the ride! We totaled 120 miles today!
While we were huffing and puffing up the mountain PhillyK and AndyK were visiting the nearby hot springs for a relaxing afternoon. No... That is only half true. Both of these guys work their butts off everyday driving the car around, making the documentary, collecting stickers of all the towns we stop in to decorate our car, and making our trip more enjoyable in every way!
Our final destination was at the Shermon Camp grounds which were about 15 miles past Santiam Pass. Our friend Martin Gould was sooo nice to pay for a place for us to stay so that we didn't have to camp out :) We really really appreciated it especially after such a long day!
(A pic of Martin Gould hanging out in Europe!)
Tomorrow we only have like 50 or 60 miles! That will be a piece of cake :)

Make sure Sugar applies ice to that knee. Hope the day ahead will be light and enjoyable.
