Here is a special report from Jimmy Klose first Cyclocross race:

My race was the Superfan U19, at the Charm City Cross Race. We were the first race of the day with the official blowing his whistle at 9 a.m. on a picture perfect Sunday morning. Fellow AFC riders in the race were, Lars Tambeaux, Alec West, and Holden and Avy Rohr. It was a slow course at first, but as the race went on it began to dry out and was really fast. My favorite part of the course was the twisty hill leading up to some barriers. I had some problems, including not being able to clip back into my pedals after the sand pit and having my chain fall off after the big set of barriers. On the positive side, I got back on my bike smoothly and was able to ride smooth and fast on the turns. Now for the details of the race itself. I got off to a slow start but passed a couple people on the prologue. Seeing some of the kids that I knew were going to be a challenge to beat, they were already about 150 yards ahead. Good thing it was a 40 minute race. As I road past some women and flew up the hills, I finally saw some juniors in sight. I recognized them from the Turkey day race and knew that I could catch up as they slowed. Once I caught up with them I pulled way ahead and maintained a steady pace. On my third lap around I crossed the finish line with Alex who was competing in the Cat 4 race. As he finished happily, I still had one lap to go. For the last lap I was all by myself and crossed the finish line in 3rd place. It was a great day for everyone and since this was my first race I plan to do many more and keep practicing.

Next week Ed Sander!!

Turkey Day Results

Super Hot Day!

In early in the morning Holden and Jimmy raced in the Junior races.

(Holden at the starting line)

(Jimmy racing alll out)

This was both their very first road race and both did exceptional! They are going to tear up cyclocross this year!!

Next race was the Cat5 race which featured Pat and Steve Klose. Pat had an issue with his gears and Steve finished nicely in the big pack of riders and finished in 20 place out of 50 starters.

Adam and Keith were in the Cat3/4 race. Adam finished 2nd overal and he broke away early with four other riders and stayed away. Keith finished in the pack with a place of 26 out of 46 starters.

(Adam kicking butt)

Alex was in the Cat4 race and finished 2nd overall with some exceptional sprinting early on for primes:)

(Alex winning a prime)

Adam attempted the P1,2,3 race and finished about half the race and dropped out due to dehydration and sick.

The tour de Missouri stage 4 ends in Rolla and are hoping people from the race will head over to the showing.

Pat and Adam get their VO2 Max Test done

We got our VO2 Max tested today at Total Performance with Krista Schultz

http://totalperformanceinc.net/

It was great! She has the best equipment! We wanted to do this test so we can better prepare ourselves for Race Across America next summer.

Results:
Pat was 73.3

Adam was 75.6

What is the VO2 max test?

Vo2 max testing measures the amount of oxygen consumed during exercise. When it is measured at maximal effort, it is called Maximal Oxygen Uptake (VO2Max). VO2max or maximal oxygen consumption represents the maximum amount of oxygen in milliliters, one can use in one minute per kilogram of body weight.
The VO2 Max is the gold standard for measuring cardio fitness. The more fit you are, the higher your VO2 Max. Your heart, like any muscle, becomes stronger the more you exercise it. As you become more fit, your heart pumps more oxygenated blood with each beat. As a result, the heart rate of fit people increases more slowly when exercising than that of less fit individuals. Beware of some other 'cardio coaching' devices cropping up that cannot measure your VCO2 (expired air). Without it, you cannot know the amount of fat you burn and AT cannot accurately be measured.

I highly recommend checking her out!

Thanks

Adam

Lehigh Valley Winery Criterium - 8/30/08

Adam raced his first race as a CAT 3. He easily won 1st place by staying away from the pack. He and another racer were able to break from the pack in the 3rd lap. By the end of the race they had about 2minutes on the rest of the racers. In the final lap Adam's partner was too tired to put up a fight and Adam coasted across the finish line.

(Alex raced in the CAT 4. He placed 5th)

(Patrick raced CAT 5 and placed 4th)

It was a good day for AFC
